The 3 quid lippy | 'Salvation' velvet lip lacquer by Revolution, review

Buy at TAM Beauty £3

'Make Up Revolution' is a brand I've been a fan of for a while now, they're really affordable and their quality matches up to other drugstore items I've used too. I found their Salvation Velvet Lacquer on their website, and for £3 I thought it was definitely one to try. I first bought this in the shade, 'Vamp', around six months ago and I've just purchased my second tube.

First Impressions

The packaging is as expected; it's pretty, I really like the font used and foiling, but the feel of the plastic is definitely cheap - something you can't complain at for the price, really. It has the standard doe-foot applicator which I've so far found to be pretty accurate and works well with the formula and consistency of the product itself. It doesn't really have a smell, which is something I really like too.

Using The Product

I really enjoyed using this pretty much straight away, I'd been looking for a dark purple lip colour for a while now. I wanted to find one that I didn't need to correct or top up throughout the day, and the thick, syrup-like formula seemed to fulfil that. In one layer, the lip lacquer is so opaque you can't see the natural lip colour coming through, and the thickness helps create a perfectly smooth line too, meaning you don't need to use a matching lip liner underneath to help this product work to its fullest.

The thickness means that it's quite heavy on the lips, meaning it's important to moisturise your lips before and after and it can be quite difficult to remove, even using a specific cleanser for removing lip make-up. It dries completely matte, and in my opinion, looks really great too. It's so dark, that it does look like an off-black colour in some lights, and purple in others.

Since this was one of the very first products I tried from Revolution, I was surprised at the quality and longevity of their lacquer. I'd tried their 'Lip Euphoria' product line in the same haul, and although I liked them, they were pretty standard liquid lip products, so I really was amazed at the complete change in formula - which is what is needed for a darker colour too! If you're looking for a long-lasting dark lip, this is definitely the place to start.

Final Thoughts

This has been exactly what I've been looking for, a dark purple lip colour that stays and lasts all day without too much faff or preparation. As I mentioned, I've already re-purchased this and I'll definitely be out to buy it again as soon as I'm running low. I haven't tried anything like it for the price point and would definitely recommend it.

  1. You pull off this shade so well. Using dark vampy shades make my lips look smaller then they already are haha. x
