DIY Advent Calendar Ideas

Advent calendars are going crazy like anything before, at the minute, there's just so much to choose from and to make our little chocolate calendars look puny. So if you're anything like me, you might want to make your loved ones something a little special for either a lot less money or just something a little more fitting and personal. Maybe you want to make a cat-lovers inspired advent calendar or something special for your partner. Here are a few ideas of mine this year.

Coupon Advent Calendar

A little different to an ordinary advent calendar but one that could work well for all different people in your life to show that your care! Coupon ideas could be one free massage, making cups of tea or coffee for the whole day, cooking dinner or even a promised phone call if you live a while away!

Letter-a-Day Advent Calendar to the one you love....

This is one I'm partaking in this year for mine and my boyfriends first Christmas together, he opens up a short love letter every day from the 1st to the 24th. I think this is a great idea if you and your partner are the romantic types, especially this time of year! It also might make a great opportunity to say things you might not say ordinarily, and it'll be a great keepsake in years to come!

Get creative and make your own envelopes to go with your handwritten letters, or easier still, buy some like I did!

Here are a few sets I found:

+ Vintage Mini Envelopes (£2.40 for 12)
+ Crafted Vintage Kraft Envelopes (£1.39 for 10)
+ Vintage Air-Mail Look Mini Envelopes (99p for 10)
+ Brown with White Lace Foiling Envelopes (48p each)
+ Map Themed Envelopes (£1.99 for 5)
+ Crazy Sun Patterned Mini Envelopes (£2.50 for 10)
+ Gold Glitter Lined Envelopes (£4.75 for 5)
+ Coloured-Lined Envelopes (25 for £6.32+)

Chocolate Bar Advent Calendar

A little more on the traditional side, a homemade chocolate advent calendar! Scrap teeny, tiny chocolate for full-size chocolate bars or even smaller wrapped chocolates from boxes of Roses or Quality Streets. You put each one in ready-made empty advent calendar holders, or make your own!

Make your own Beauty Advent Calendar

Beauty advent calendars have been the new huge surge in the past year or so, but as you, most of them are priced quite high, and even if they are worth your money, they're not usually budget friendly, especially when you don't even know what's inside! You might want to make sure every product is vegan-friendly, cruelty-free, or maybe you know exactly what products your best mate loves and want to cater it to their tastes.

Here are a few empty advent calendars I found:
Maybe you want to mix it up with stationary, cosy socks, art prints or even make them open up little clues for a treasure hunt! You can be really experimental this year with advent calendars for your partner, family members or best mates, and I'd love to hear what you did this year to get creative and personal. Let me know in the comments what you think of these suggestions or what you've done, or are planning to do this year. Or send me a tweet via Twitter @inasensebeauty!
